Slowly, but steadily, we are beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel. The sun is showing again and we take use of the nice weather and spend some time at the waterside. It´s always amazing to discover the many canals, rivers and lakes in and nearby Berlin.
There´s a saying: Berlin has more bridges than Venice and Amsterdam together. Even if this is a little exaggerated and we stay behind Amsterdam with our 960 bridges, this is quite a lot compared to Venice´s 400 bridges.

Berlin´s latest trend is ice-swimming. Yes, you got us right: ice-swimming. A new challenge able to help us test our own limits and find a way towards ourselfes. Some of us are busy proving how long they can take it inside the water at these temperatures.
In this context Philipp Vogel and a part of his team have founded the “Schwimmgruppe Ost“, a counterpart to “Schwimmgruppe Nord“, founded by Sebastian Prüßmann, culinary director of legendary Sansibar Sylt. In autumn we can probably attend a competition between the two swimming clubs, at the same time as eat!BERLIN. The gourmet festival, that has been postponed to October, where Philipp Vogel, Sebastian Prüßmann and Sascha Stemberg will also challenge each other in the kitchen.

We rather stay warm and begin our walk at East Side Gallery. The largest part of the Berlin Wall still existing in one piece between Ostbahnhof and famous Oberbaumbrücke has become world famous as East Side Gallery. 118 artists from 21 countries have designed 1,3 kilometres of the former GDR border. Today it is the world´s largest Open Air Gallery and stands as a symbol of joy and greatfulness about the reunion of Germany.

We keep following the river Spree and admire MOLECULE MAN, a work of art, that was created in May 1999 by American sculptor Jonathan Borofsky. It is formed by three 100 feet (30 meters) high manlike figures made of weatherproof, perforated aluminium sheets standing opposite each other and touching in the middle. There´s a double-sided symbolic meaning: the encounter of three of Berlin´s districts, Alt-Treptow, Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg, as well as the connection of molecules in all mankind as a general survival base.
The sculpture weighs about 45 tons and has stood in the focus of medial attention several times. For example, when political activists covered one of the figures with a giant life jacket to draw people´s attention towards the situation of refugees in the Mediterranean Sea.

We continue our walk in TREPTOWER PARK. A beautiful large park at the river Spree inviting us to stay a while. We immediately dive into maritime feelings. Some houseboats are lying here and people throw yearning glances at the water. We can discover the first crocusses and animals getting rid of their winter coat.
It´s fantastic to feel the city come alive again. First streetmusicians provide this special Berlin atmosphere with their selfmade instruments.
