Dear Orania.Friends. Today we are happy to start our newsletter with some really good news. Orania.Berlin´s social media campaign qualified to the finals of this year´s Hotel Social Media Award in the category customer loyalty. We are proud to see that our activities on Instagram and Facebook are being appreciated. Now it is all about the finals! The first place will be elected by a public vote and of course we can highly recommend you to have a closer look at this …

“The way to the heart is through the stomach“ - it is not as if this saying was somehow new to any of us. But we cannot find it all too wrong, neither. We would like to show you today why it is very true concerning the love of Berlin. Even though we are still closed as hotel and restaurant, at least people in Berlin have the chance of having our X-Berg-Duck delivered by Wolt. As we are in natural pole position, we can grab a serving of chips, pulled duck and duck burger as we pass by the kitchen.

Last week we had the wonderful opportunity of meeting some friends. Managing and culinary director Philipp Vogel brought X-Berg Duck to Berlin´s district Mitte. The winebar Freundschaft (eng.: friendship) added fabulous wine to go and it almost felt a bit like non-pandemic times.

Talking of friendship: a great idea was realised by our controller Frederik Heilen. Together with his girlfriend - quote: "partner, big love, businesspartner" - Leila, he rebuilt a cargo bike into NullNullPizzaFahrrad. Only regional ingredients are being baked at 450°C into original Naples´ Pizza live on the pizza bike. Even though we have already had our X-Berg-Duck snack, we have to try a slice of these beauties, too, of course.

Frederik actually works in administration, whereas our colleague Kevin von Werthern doesn´t leave familiar territory with his gourmet packages. He is currently in charge of meat, fish and main courses as Orania.Kitchen Saucier. But we also enjoy his Sicilian mandarin jam and his savoury shortbread - a lot. If you consider having something delivered, just write him an e-mail: kontakt@kevinkocht.de - the online-shop is still under construction.

Takeaways and delivered food are great. But of course we would also love to welcome you in person soon. That is why we engage actively in implementing highest standards of hygiene and safety. Orania.Berlin is one of the founders of the “Clean&Safe“ seal of the alliance Boutique Hotels & Apartments Berlin. The concept affects all areas of the hotel.

Being there for each other - this is also the motto of Bars of Berlin. The founding of the organisation was a direct reaction to the pandemic situation last October. Most of the culinary enterprises are facing a serious crisis due to the current situation. The association tries to maintain the variaty of Berlin´s bar scene and aims to achieve stronger networks between the people working in bars.
What a great idea!

Together with our partners of Berlin Food Kollektiv we also support some of the most important changes of our time. The non-profit organisation stands for universal values as sustainability, a deep understanding of social matters, cooperation instead of competition and fosters Berlin´s image as international food hotspot for independent cuisine.

Such magnetic spots can also be found at Oranienplatz, by the way. If you should not already know and love the following recommendations, let yourself be inspired now. There is a lot to be discovered in our neighbourhood.

We get wonderful coffee at Nano Kaffee. Since 2014 the independent roastery with included coffeeshop and a brandnew coffee delivery bike provides us with coffee of the highest quality. They also look after the people and nature they affect - all of the employees have a permanent job, they engage in reducing waste, their electricity is being generated ecologically. That´s the way to do it!

Unfortunately we cannot have dinner at Wirtshaus Max und Moritz right now. We usually love to come here in the evening or on rainy days. The mood is relaxed and beautifully old-fashioned in this 120 years old restaurant named after Wilhelm Busch´s famous rascals.

We also miss Restaurant Obermaier a lot. Fabulous Tyrol-crossover kitchen, a garden for warmer days, cozy atmosphere and a good talk to our Obermaier colleagues and friends are hard to replace (photography by Timm Ringewaldt).

Just around the corner we arrive at ORA. The winebar and restaurant owes its charme to the atmosphere of the old pharmacy it is placed in. Seasonal dishes as well as a stunningly varied wine list are truly worth a visit, whenever it will be possible again. Their plan is to re-open on 5 June and we are looking forward to it!

Getting back to Orania.Berlin doesn´t take us long now. Opposite of ORA we can already see its wellknown facade. A few months ago we took part in a great event as one of the ghostbars. Jochen Hirschfeld, photographer and barlover from Munich, launched his creative charity project last year. The rules are simple: those who would like to support their favourite bar or bartender, donate the fix sum of 500 Euros. In return they receive a recipe for a drink created just for them, based on their personal preferences. The motto “I want to be a host, not a ghost.“ has also lead to fantastic pictures, already.

By the way - have you met our new Instagram account for Orania.Bar yet? Step inside!

For now we salute you digitally. But hopefully we can soon have a glass together at Orania.Bar.

Cheers!
